OLD STERLING ANOINTING CASE WITH ORIGINAL POUCH

Description: This is one of the more unusual religious items we have ever purchased! It is incredibly unique and beautiful made. The case itself is marked sterling and it is signed by the Massachusetts company Swift and Fisher, famous for its sterling rosaries. It is quite heavy and well made with a very unusual hinged locking catch. The inside still has the original cotton and oil used for anointing. The piece is gilded in gold and the top is engraved with an HS with a cross piercing through it. The pouch has an embossed gold cross on the top. Inside it is lined with satin and it has two pouches, one for the case and one for the extra cotton. The leather is worn and torn in several places since this is quite old.
Measurements: The case measures 1.5 inches in diameter by 1 1/8 inches tall. The carrying case measures 4 inches and it has a braided rope handle.
Age: Circa. 1915?
Material / Medium Sterling Silver, Leather and Cotton
Condition: It is in beautiful condition and it comes with the original leather carrying pouch.

Additional Comments: We have had a pyx in the past that was made similar to this, but we have never seen anything quite like this and hence did not know exactly what to call it! It is a beautiful treasure for the collector of antique religious items!
